SANTA CRUZ, Calif. (KFSN) -- One person is dead after officials say they drove off the Santa Cruz wharf.

Rescue crews quickly responded and had to break the vehicle's windows to get the person out.

The victim was rushed to the hospital, where they died.

A dog was also rescued.

An investigation is underway to determine what happened.

The wharf was partially closed while emergency responders helped.

It was later reopened with limited access.
