NEW YORK — Jon Stewart, who returned to “The Daily Show” last year after nine years away from the program that made him a late-night icon, has said he would like to stay on as his current contract nears its end.

Stewart currently only hosts on Monday nights and it seems he’s enjoying the arrangement. According to The Hollywood Reporter , he told New Yorker editor David Remnick that he’s “working on staying.”

“Look, the other thing to remember is it’s not as clear cut as all that,” Stewart told Remnick during Sunday’s New Yorker Festival, Deadline reports . “They’ve already done things that I’m upset about. But then if I had integrity, maybe I would stand up and go ‘I’m out.’ Or maybe the integrity thing to do would be to stay in it and keep fighting in the foxhole.”
