Millions of tenants are set to be protected as a new law cracks down on death-trap homes. The new rules, coming into force from Monday, mean landlords across England’s four million social rent homes will be required to take urgent action to fix dangerous homes.
The legislation is named after Awaab Ishak, who died in 2020 after prolonged exposure to mould in the social home his family rented in Rochdale.
Chief campaigns officer Paul McDonald said while Awaab’s Law is an “important milestone”, their research shows “we need to go further”.
