COLUMBUS, Ohio — A 7-year-old boy is dead after an accidental shooting near Grandview Heights Sunday night.
Officers with the Columbus Division of Police were called to the 1500 block of Grandview Avenue near West 5th Avenue around 9:10 p.m.
Columbus Police Sgt. Joe Albert said officers were told that a 7-year-old boy gained access to a weapon that was not secured and accidentally shot himself.
He was pronounced dead at 9:18 p.m.
Albert said the investigation is ongoing. The incident will be presented to the prosecutor's office for the consideration of charges.
Sunday’s fatal shooting comes less than a week after another child was shot in the city.
