Restaurateur shares stories from 'the restaurant trenches'

He’s the man behind some of New York’s most celebrated dining destinations — from Tribeca Grill to Nobu — and one of the city’s most colorful figures in hospitality.

In his new memoir, “I’m Not Trying to Be Difficult: Stories from the Restaurant Trenches,” Drew Nieporent takes readers from his childhood in Peter Cooper Village to the creation of a dining empire that helped define New York’s culinary scene.

Nieporent sat down with “Mornings On 1” to reflect on his four decades in the industry, and to share what’s changed most in restaurants over the years.
