When Fairbanks Mayor David Pruhs first entered the mayor’s office at City Hall in October 2022, it was a bit of an adjustment.
“It was hard for me to get used to this office because this was the principal’s office when I went to school here,” Pruhs said on Thursday. “It took me about a week with some Dr. Phil intervention to not come into here with trepidation.”
City Hall used to be a school building, constructed in the 1930s after the city’s only school burned to the ground in December 1932. A Fairbanksan born and raised, Pruhs attended the school along with his brothers.
Decades later, Pruhs will again exit the office space after three years helming the city as mayor.
