PORTLAND, Ore. — A Portland City Councilor’s vehicle was one of several gutted in a fierce fire during the early hours of Sunday morning. Arson is suspected.
Portland Fire & Rescue received a call at 2.40 a.m. about a fire in the Mill Park neighborhood. On their arrival, they found several vehicles and a carport burning in a fierce blaze. After extinguishing the fire, it was established that the vehicles were unoccupied, and no one was injured.
A fire investigator was summoned to the scene and, was assisted by officers from the Portland Police Bureau’s East Precinct, it was discovered that the vehicle of origin belonged to City Councilor Candace Avalos.
At this stage, the cause of the fire remains unknown but is considered suspicious. No arrests have been made.
