A Norwegian Cruise Lines ship, the Norwegian Epic, successfully rescued 63 individuals stranded in the Ionian Sea on the night of October 22. The rescue occurred about 70 miles southwest of Zakynthos, Greece, as the cruise ship was en route from Civitavecchia, Italy, with scheduled stops in Greece, Malta, Italy, and France.
The Norwegian Epic coordinated with Greek authorities to carry out the rescue operation. According to the Daily Mail , the ship's crew provided medical evaluations, food, and other necessities to the rescued individuals. Following directives from the Rescue Coordination Centre, the ship proceeded to Kalamata, Greece, where the individuals were handed over to Greek authorities.
