ST PAUL, Minn. — More than 1,500 residents evacuated the Skyline Tower in St. Paul on Sunday morning after a fire damaged the building's electrical system.
The fire took place around 12:30 a.m. on the twelfth floor at 1247 St. Anthony Ave. In a press release Monday, the City of St. Paul stated that firefighters extinguished the flames without any injuries.
Then just seven minutes later, the building's electrical system failed and activated sprinklers on three floors. The power completely went out and disrupted the building's water, heat, fire suppression, alarms and elevators.
The Fire Safety Division of the Department of Safety and Inspections revoked the building's certificate of occupancy due to these complications. CommonBond Communities, an affordable housing nonprofit, is helping
