FAIRFIELD, Texas (KWTX) - A Fairfield Police Dept. officer fatally shot the driver of a pickup that collided head-on with his patrol unit during a welfare check, the police department announced.
The shooting happened at about 1 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 25, in the 200 block of County Road 606.
A Fairfield police officer was speaking with a woman in the middle of the road when the driver of the pickup “came out of an oil field and struck the the officer’s patrol unit head-on,” Fairfield police said.
The police officer fired his weapon, striking the driver of the pickup, police said. The driver was transported to the Freestone Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.
