STAMFORD, Conn. — A 20-year-old New Canaan man is being held on a $2 million bond after police say he called 911 and told dispatchers, “I killed my mother.”
Sebastian Van Stockum appeared in Stamford Superior Court Monday, facing a murder charge in the death of his mother. Prosecutors described the killing as particularly violent.
“The victim was bludgeoned to death with extreme trauma to her skull,” prosecutors said in court.
Police said they responded to a 911 call on Saturday from a male caller, later identified as Van Stockum, who allegedly stated he had killed his mother. First responders later pronounced her dead at the scene.
Van Stockum’s defense attorney, Philip Russell, said the situation has been devastating for the family.
