A state parole agent shot someone during an altercation in Palm Springs on Monday, and the ambulance taking the person to the hospital then got into a crash, police said.

Police Lt. Gustavo Araiza said a parole agent asked Palm Springs police officers for help over the radio around 11:30 a.m. because he was in a "physical altercation" with someone in the 2700 block of Vista Chino. City police were on their way to help when the parole agent then reported about three minutes later that there was an "officer-involved shooting," Araiza added.

The ambulance taking the gunshot victim to the hospital crashed around Sunrise Way and Vista Chino. Araiza said police have the scene secured and another ambulance arrived to transport the shooting victim. Authorities have closed East Vista Chino betwee
