United States President Donald Trump has ruled out running for vice president in the 2028 election, but declined to definitively say he would not seek a third term.

On Monday, the US leader dismissed the theory he would run as a VP and have the president step down, which could pave the way for him to serve a third term.

Asked about the theory during an exchange with reporters aboard Air Force One as he flew from Malaysia to Tokyo, President Trump said he would be “allowed to do that”.

However, the President ruled out going down the path of running for vice president, describing the theory as “too cute”.

"I wouldn't do that. I think it's too cute,” he said.
