LEXINGTON, Ky. (ABC 36 NEWS NOW) – Preston’s Spring Park in Lexington was closed for most of the day Sunday as detectives conducted a new search related to the 1997 disappearance of 14-year-old Lydia Perkins.
According to a video release from the Lexington Police Department, the search was part of an ongoing follow-up investigation into the decades-old missing person case. Police say Perkins was last seen near Preston’s Spring Park sometime before the missing person’s report was filed on October 26, 1997.
According to police, this latest search effort used dogs and other resources to reexamine areas of interest. It followed an earlier search that had to be postponed due to flooding. The department says it continues to review the case using updated technology and investigative tools.
