A 50-year-old Slate Belt man was killed Sunday in a crash involving a “road registered, open-air vehicle,” Northampton County Coroner Zachary Lysek said in a news release.
Matthew Bichler, of Upper Mount Bethel Township, was driving in the Slate Belt’s Portland Borough when he lost control and left the road prior to crashing in a wooded area, officials said.
The coroner determined Bichler died from blunt-force injuries and ruled the death an accident.
Lysek said he was not commenting further. Portland police were not immediately available to provide further details.
Initial reports on social media indicated the crash occurred about 5 p.m. on Delaware Avenue and involved a dune buggy, and that a second person was injured .
