B.C.’s government liquor stores are open again a day after the B.C. General Employees’ Union reached a tentative deal with the government, but it’ll take much longer to restore the system after the eight-week strike, the longest public service strike in B.C. history.
At the B.C. Liquor store on Main Street, people were in and out at a steady pace on Monday morning.
“I’m stocking up,” quipped one man in line at the checkout counter, his basket piled high with bottles, including a gin and vodka.
Purchases of spirits were limited to six items of each product a day to ensure access to limited supply, the B.C. Liquor Distribution Branch said Monday, when the provincial government’s 198 government liquor stores, 40 cannabis stores reopened, and liquor distribution warehouses reopened.
