COLUMBUS, Ind. -- Authorities rescued a man after his vehicle crashed into a pond in Columbus Monday morning.

Officers with the Columbus Police Department were dispatched around 9:18 a.m. to a report of a personal injury accident at Mill Race Park near Carl Miske Drive and Indianapolis Road. While officers were en route, the caller informed them that they had observed a vehicle crash into a nearby pond.

CPD said officers arrived on the scene and were met with a silver Ford Taurus that was partially submerged in the water. An officer and a firefighter immediately dove into the water and attempted to rescue the driver.

Once additional units arrived, they used ropes to pull the vehicle toward the bank. First responders then broke a window and rescued the driver from the water while the veh
