Eastern Airways has suspended all operations, leaving passengers stranded and flights cancelled across the UK. The regional airline, which has been a key player in connecting cities like Aberdeen, Humberside, and Teesside, announced the cancellations on Monday, October 27. Passengers are strongly advised not to travel to airports, as all Eastern Airways flights are cancelled. The Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) has confirmed the suspension, urging customers to seek alternative travel arrangements. Selina Chadha, Consumer & Markets Director at the CAA, stated, "We urge passengers planning to fly with this airline not to go to the airport as all Eastern Airways flights are cancelled. Eastern Airways customers should visit the Civil Aviation Authority’s website for the latest information." In response to the situation, several train operators, including LNER, ScotRail, TransPennine Express, and Northern Railway, are offering free standard class travel to affected Eastern Airways staff and customers on October 28 and 29. To access this support, individuals must present an Eastern Airways employee ID, boarding pass, or flight confirmation to station staff. Loganair has also stepped in to assist stranded passengers by introducing a special rescue fare on select Aberdeen routes. A spokesperson for Loganair said, "Following widespread speculation concerning Eastern Airways operations, we’re stepping in to support passengers in any way we can. As part of our commitment to keeping the islands connected, we’re introducing a special rescue fare on our Aberdeen/Kirkwall and Aberdeen/Sumburgh routes to assist affected Eastern Airways customers in reaching their destinations with minimal disruption." Passengers who booked directly with Eastern Airways using credit, debit, or charge cards are advised to contact their card issuer for potential chargeback claims. Eastern Airways, based at Humberside Airport, has been operating since 1997 but has faced significant financial challenges in recent years, exacerbated by the Covid pandemic and a decline in passenger numbers. The airline has been a vital operator in the oil and gas industry, connecting key regions in the UK. As the situation develops, affected individuals are encouraged to stay informed through official channels for the latest updates and support options.
