Elmo and Grimace have been spotted floating around Hong Kong's waterways as the city's harbor plays host to some larger than life characters.
Doraemon, the robot cat from the popular Japanese manga series, and a floating Labubu joined the two American favorites as part of a spectacular backdrop of giant floats in Victoria Harbor created for visitors to enjoy.
Floating off Tamar Park on Hong Kong Island, the colorful quartet stand out against Hong Kong’s iconic skyline, drawing hundreds of onlookers eager to snap selfies with their icons.
“Actually, the one I was most looking forward to was Labubu,” said Nico Ng, a mother visiting with her daughter.
“But after seeing it in person, I found Grimace really cute too. My child seems to prefer Doraemon.”
The event has been organized by the same creative team behind Hong Kong’s past inflatable sculpture display, including the famous Rubber Duck and KAWS displays that have previously floated on Victoria Harbor.
“We approached this project with a global mindset,” said event curator SK Lam.
“We consider the audience's age group, the fan base, and category of the cartoon, to bring this line up together.”
The four giant floats will remain on public view until November 1.
On their final day, they’ll make a farewell tour around Victoria Harbor, a cheerful send-off for the floating celebrities.
