Notre Dame coach Marcus Freeman addressed Monday the news that LSU had dismissed coach Brian Kelly on Sunday after 3 1/2 seasons and a 34-14 record.

Kelly, who led Notre Dame for 12 years and is the all-time wins leader in program history, hired Freeman as Irish defensive coordinator prior to the 2021 season and his departure to coach the Tigers created the opportunity for Freeman to be named head coach in December 2021.

"You never want to see anybody lose their job," Freeman said. "Coach Kelly gave me an opportunity to come here, and I’m always rooting for him. But it’s also the profession we’ve chosen. We’ve chosen this profession. We know that can be the result of choosing this profession."
