BOSTON —
Dozens of passengers contracted norovirus aboard a cruise ship that docked in Boston on Monday.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 74 of the 634 people aboard the Oceania Insignia tested positive during the voyage. The number of cases has since dropped, but anyone who remains sick is not allowed off the ship.
Norovirus is highly contagious and can spread even after symptoms end.
The vessel docked in Portland, Maine, on Sunday, where workers expressed some concern about the virus.
"If you're an employee and you have to be at work and a cruise passenger comes in totally unknowingly because perhaps they're asymptomatic, they don't even know that they're contagious," said JoAnn Locktov in Portland.
