At one of your trips to the dentist, the subject of wisdom teeth will be brought up. X-rays will be taken, questions asked and referrals might even be made.
The reason for all of the attention and planning on getting them removed is a rather straightforward one – most people don’t have room in their mouth for more teeth. Dr. Philip Bomeli of Solon Orthodontics said this means wisdom teeth can come in at odd angles, damaging the surrounding teeth and negatively affecting the overall structure of the mouth.
“No one has a crystal ball to know exactly when a wisdom tooth might start to cause people a problem,” Bomeli said. “But if you wait to address them, the risks can go up. It’s much better to be proactive and get them out before there is a problem.”
When to have them removed can differ
