INDIANAPOLIS — Roughly 600,000 Hoosiers who rely on the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, or SNAP , will not receive federal benefits next month. The U.S. Department of Agriculture confirmed in a new notice that no SNAP funds will be distributed on Nov. 1.

“Bottom line, the well has run dry,” the USDA notice reads.

In a notice sent to Indiana SNAP outreach partners Monday, and obtained by 13 News, FSSA said, “We received confirmation on Friday from FNS that we will not be issuing November benefits as long as the shutdown continues.”

A FSSA spokesperson told 13News they were hopeful the government would reach an agreement before Indiana’s monthly issuance begins Nov. 5, but that seems unlikely at this point. Indiana issues SNAP benefits from the 5th of the month through the 23rd
