NEWARK, N.J. (PIX11) — With the federal government shutdown set to enter its fifth week on Wednesday, an indication of the financial strain that federal workers are under was visible here at one of the nation's largest airports on Monday.
Hundreds of TSA agents lined up to receive grocery assistance from a local food bank and its food supply partners.
"Like pasta and sauce, and tuna fish, but also a lot of fresh produce," said Elizabeth McCarthy, the C.E.O. of the Community Food Bank of New Jersey, in an interview on site in Newark Liberty Airport's Terminal C.
She said that her organization, with help from Stop and Shop, and Wakefern Food and Amazon, had set up a warehouse-style supply pickup area on the departures floor of the terminal on Monday morning into the afternoon.
