AMARILLO, Texas (KAMR/KCIT) — Corporal Mike Sanchez served the community for 16 years as a dedicated officer of the Amarillo Police Department. In 2021, Sanchez would pass from complications as a result of contracting COVID in the line of duty. Now, along with many other first responders across the Texas Panhandle, he will be honored at the Texas Panhandle First Responders Memorial.
"He made a big impact on the community and was just a pivotal part of it. I've just had so many people reach out to me since his passing that have spoken to me, told me stories that I had no clue about the man he was," said Michael Sanchez, Mike Sanchez's son.
Sgt. Carla Burr, with the Amarillo Police Department, said many with the department remember him fondly.
