PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) – Authorities continue to investigate the fire that impacted the home of City Councilor Candace Avalos over the weekend and have determined that the cause of the fire — presumed to be a possible arson — is still undetermined.

In a Monday afternoon announcement, the Portland Police Bureau and Portland Fire and Rescue announced that “investigators cannot definitively determine the exact cause of the fire.”

“Preliminary findings indicate that the fire did not originate in Councilor Avalos' vehicle or other property belonging to her,” officials said. “The fire began in a storage shed adjacent to the residence, and Councilor Avalos and other nearby residents were affected by the spread of the fire.”
