East Bronx residents may have to wait until 2030 for full train service to Penn Station.

The MTA initially planned to start service to the east side of the Bronx along Amtrak’s Hell Gate line in 2027. The agency now says the earliest full service will start in 2030
The MTA blames Amtrak for the delay and says it provided seven service outages in the first two years and not the agreed upon minimum of 30. It also did not provide the staffing necessary during those outages to perform the work, according to the MTA
Amtrak says it is committed to the project, while the MTA wants the agency to commit to at least partial service by the initial completion date
Residents, many whom are only served by buses, say they were looking forward to it.
