FOREST PARK, Ga. (Atlanta News First) - A roadway collapsed in Forest Park on Monday morning because of a broken water line, officials said.

The road collapsed at Longleaf Drive and Pine Creek Road after a broken six-inch water line “washed away the base of the roadway,” according to a spokesperson with the Forest Park Public Works Department.

“Given the size of the failure, officials from Clayton County have decided to close the section of the roadway overnight,” the spokesperson said. “Crews will remobilize tomorrow, Oct. 28, to conduct permanent repairs.”

In the meantime, residents and drivers are asked to stay clear of the immediate area. Officials also urge drivers to use caution and follow all detour signs or traffic control procedures.
