WALLINGFORD, Conn. — As the government shutdown drags onto its second month soon, the problem will only get worse for about 360,000 people in Connecticut who rely on food benefits from the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) .
No SNAP cards will be reloaded in the month of November , leaving food banks scrambling to keep up with the projected increase.
Gov. Ned Lamont announced Monday that his administration is setting aside $3 million in emergency funding for Connecticut Foodshare.
"This is a time we wanna step up and help people out," Lamont said.
While it's not a permanent solution, he hopes it can hold people over until the federal government starts back up. The amount of $3 million will only go so far; it should help supply 3 million meals each week, but it wil
