HILLSBORO Ore. (KPTV) - A North Plains man went on trial Monday for the murder of his brother, a Tualatin Valley Fire & Rescue firefighter who was shot to death at the family’s wedding venue in January 2024.

Robert Horning is accused of killing his brother Carl Horning at Horning’s Hideout, the popular wedding venue where Robert worked as manager. The jury heard opening statements from prosecutors and defense attorneys Monday at the Washington County Courthouse.

The case centers on a family dispute over the future of the business that spans more than half a century.
