PORTLAND, Ore. — The possible deployment of National Guard troops to Portland remains in legal limbo, at least until Tuesday. That’s when the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals is expected to decide whether to reconsider an earlier ruling that favored the Trump Administration and would have allowed federalized National Guard troops to deploy in Portland.

On Friday, the appeals court hit pause, temporarily suspending the earlier ruling . The administrative stay remains in place until 5 p.m. on Oct. 28 while judges consider whether to take another look at the case.

Meanwhile, the legal battle continues on another front. A separate three-day trial begins Wednesday before U.S. District Judge Karin Immergut in Portland, who will hear testimony and decide the merits of the case.
