WELLS COUNTY, Ind. (WPTA) - Ossian’s firefighting agreement with Jefferson Township is being canceled.

According to the township, Township Trustee A.J. Springer received a notice last week that the agreement would be terminated effective Dec. 31.

The termination follows the Jefferson Township Advisory Board refusing to sign the 2026 Fire Protection Agreement with the Town of Ossian and the Ossian Volunteer Fire Department.

“The Jefferson Township Trustee’s Office is reviewing all available options to ensure continued fire protection services for township residents after this date,” the office shared on social media. “Updates will be shared as more information becomes available.”

Those with questions or concerns are directed to contact trustee@jeffersontownshipwellsin.gov.
