A 26-year-old man held on misdemeanor charges at the Clackamas County Jail was beaten by another man in custody this month and later died, the man’s lawyer confirmed late Monday to The Oregonian/OregonLive.

Reece Richeson, 26, was at the Clackamas County Jail on drug and property crime allegations when he was assaulted, said defense lawyer Shannon Kmetic.

Kmetic told The Oregonian/OregonLive that the Clackamas County District Attorney’s Office informed her on Oct. 20 that her client was assaulted and was receiving treatment at OHSU Hospital. She said she was notified the following day that Richeson had died.
