LOS ANGELES – A bad call at the plate and a blunder on the bases quickly altered the tone of the Blue Jays attempts to get the upper hand on Dodgers here in Game 3 of the World Series .
First the scene. After Bichette singled to lead off the inning, Daulton Varsho appeared to have an easy walk call on a pitch from Dodgers starter Tyler Glasnow that was high and clearly out of the zone.
The call from home plate umpire Mark Wegner was a ball but not only was it off, it was delayed to the point that he started heading down to first. Bichette then started walking towards second and was then easily picked off.
The Jays, understandably were not pleased.
“Very delayed call, very deliberate,” Blue Jays manager John Schneider said in a between innings interview with FOX reporter Ken Rosenth
