SUNBURY, Pa. — Folks turned out at the Sunbury City Council meeting on Monday to object to the removal of fluoride from the city's water.
The Sunbury Municipal Authority voted last week to stop adding fluoride to the water supply, after employees expressed concerns about handling the chemical.
On Monday night, two dentists spoke at the council meeting, explaining the benefits of fluoride and what may happen when it's removed.
Dr. Julio Lara of Susquehanna River Valley Dental Health Clinic explains, "Statistics from the PA Coalition for Health show that Sunbury has a large population compared to other areas of people living in poverty. So they don't have access to see a dentist as often as most people do. So, fluoride goes a long way to making sure that their teeth stay healthy."
