Another incarcerated person has died in a Massachusetts prison, according to officials, bringing the total number of reported deaths to four in less than a month.

The death happened on Oct. 3 at the Souza Baranowski Correctional Center, a maximum security facility in Shirley, according to the Massachusetts Department of Correction (DOC).

An incarcerated man had a “medical emergency” at around 7:15 p.m., the DOC said. Staff "immediately began to administer life-saving measures and called 911."

The man was declared dead at the prison despite first responders’ arrival to help, the DOC said.
