Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar held a press conference regarding SIR on Monday

After completing the voter list update in Bihar, the Election Commission of India (ECI) will now launch a Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls across 12 states and union territories. The process will begin on October 28 and continue for 103 days, concluding on February 7, 2026.

Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar announced on Monday that the voter lists in these states will be frozen from tonight to initiate the revision process. During the SIR, new voters above 18 years of age will be added, names of deceased or relocated voters will be removed, and errors in names or addresses will be corrected through door-to-door verification by Booth Level Officers (BLOs).
