LANSING, Iowa (KCRG) - Crews are making steady progress on the new Lansing bridge with a ferry service set to launch next month.

Construction continues on the new bridge’s west end. In a Facebook post on Monday, the Mississippi River Bridge at Lansing account said several parts of the bridge will be given to the Iowa and Wisconsin DOTs including the city of Lansing for historical purposes. The remaining parts belong to the contractor, Kraemer NA.

The Iowa and Wisconsin Departments of Transportation are launching the temporary car ferry service for an alternative means to cross the river, until the new bridge opens. It’s set to launch in early November.

Federal and state agencies have issued the necessary permits and environmental clearances for the ferry operation.
