The death of the woman in her 80s on Lizard Island was "sudden and non-suspicious" and occurred on October 26, Queensland police said in a statement.

"The woman was reported missing to the police on October 25, after failing to board a vessel in waters off Queensland earlier on Saturday," a Queensland police spokesperson said.

The woman was believed to be hiking on the island when she went missing.

Queensland police said they are preparing a report for the coroner. Police have provided no further information.
