NORMAL, Ill, (WMBD) -- Leaf vacuuming started Monday, Oct 27 in the Town of Normal.
Open burning of leaves is not allowed within Normal's boundaries. So vacuuming is the way the city handles fall leaf collection.
Crews started in Zone 3 and will complete collection one zone at time until all 5 are complete. The leaf collection post on the town's website explains each zone can take a couple of days to get through.
The leaf collection instructions ask people to rake leaves to the curb keeping them on the grass or the shoulder of the road if there are no curbs. If cars are typically parked on the street people can also place leaves at the edge of their driveway.
People are asked to keep sticks and other debris out of their leaf piles that should be no more than three feet tall. Sticks and
