The Indiana Department of Health has confirmed the first flu-related death of the 2025-26 season and is urging Hoosiers to protect themselves from influenza. Details about the patient remain private due to privacy laws.

Flu season runs from October through May, with hundreds falling ill and some cases proving fatal. Last season, more than 660 residents died from influenza.

“Each year we want to stress the importance of taking steps to prevent influenza, which can quickly become a serious illness for some Hoosiers and can even be life-threatening,” said State Health Commissioner Lindsay Weaver.
