Female bus drivers finally have dedicated bathrooms at a western Sydney depot as the state government upgrades basic facilities — amid reports some workers were resorting to the use of buckets.
The state government has begun rolling out new facilities amid an $18 million upgrade of bathroom and break facilities at 34 locations after workers reportedly endured years of “appalling conditions”.
Drivers taking buckets on the road with them and hundreds of drivers sharing a single portable toilet in Parramatta for 15 years were among the concerning accounts told to Labor’s Bus Industry Taskforce, which recommended improved restrooms among other facility upgrades.
“This isn’t just about hygiene, it’s also about safety,” Transport Workers Union official Robert Rasmussen said.
