Therapy dog helps children read
Zoey, an assisted reading therapy dog, is available for school visits, said Virginia Bartley, the dog’s handler and best friend.
The gentle, big-eyed girl with long soft fur also possesses a patient demeanor, Bartley explained this past week. Zoey listens to children read aloud during weekly Paws & Pages sessions at the Roswell Public Library from 3 to 5 p.m. on Thursdays, except on holidays when the library is closed.
The pair has visited All Saints Catholic School and multiple local public schools.
Bartley can speak with authority about how this activity offers a comfortable atmosphere for kids learning to read. She is a retired teacher from Conejo Valley, a community in Ventura County, CA, located northwest of Los Angeles.
