A convicted murderer has been given a six-year sentence for terrorism offences where he planned to travel to Syria from Australia to carry out 'extremist' violence, a court has heard.
28-year-old Za'id Adbus Samad has been in custody since 2018 when he was charged with murdering his uncle.
Jury finds man guilty of stabbing murder of uncle
A jury deliberated for one day before finding Za'id Abdus Samad guilty of the stabbing murder of his uncle in a "planned, vicious ambush" in 2017.
Earlier this month he was convicted of those charges and sentenced to life in prison.
On Tuesday, the Supreme Court in Brisbane heard Abdus Samad also faced three charges of preparations for incursions into foreign countries for the purpose of engaging in hostile activities and pleaded guilty to the charge
