The State Government is moving forward with new regulations to combat the issue of 3D printed firearms. Blair Boyer, the Minister for Police, announced this week that legislation would be introduced to explicitly ban the possession of digital blueprints used in the production of 3D printed guns.

Undermining the regulatory framework that governs firearm ownership is the increasing ease of accessing blueprints for 3D printed guns facilitates the production of untraceable weapons. This loophole poses a significant threat to community safety. The new Firearms (Digital Blueprints for 3D Printing) Amendment Bill is designed to update existing firearms legislation to include provisions pertaining to modern technology, which advances at a rapid pace.
