Weather maps have revealed that more than four inches of snow could hit parts of the UK in a matter of hours.

The maps provided by WX Charts, which uses metdesk data, reveals that five council areas of Scotland could set for flurries.

A large area of Scotland has turned purple come midnight tonight (October 27).

According to wxcharts.com, the highest amount of snow could fall by 9am tomorrow (October 28).

Up to 10.94cm (4.3-inches) of snow could fall at that time in the Highland area of Scotland.

Other areas of Scotland facing snow from midnight are Moray, Aberdeenshire, Angus and Perth and Kinro
