At 16 years old, Butler center Yohan Traore was already on a path toward a professional basketball career.
Growing up in Tours, France, he played soccer before hitting a growth spurt and switching to basketball. Standing about 6 foot 8, Traore was a perimeter player when he earned the opportunity to play for France at the Under-16 European championships in 2019, teaming up with future No. 1 NBA draft pick, San Antonio Spurs center Victor Wembanyama , and future NBA players Ousmane Dieng (11th pick by the New York Knicks in 2022) and Maxime Raynaud (42nd pick by the Sacramento Kings in 2025).
