New Delhi, Oct 28: The Union Cabinet, led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, approved the Terms of Reference for the 8th Central Pay Commission, tasked with reviewing salaries for Central government employees and pensioners.

This temporary commission will consist of a Chairperson, a part-time Member, and a Member-Secretary, with recommendations due within 18 months. It will assess economic conditions, fiscal prudence, and the impact on state government finances.

Typically, pay commissions are established every ten years, and the recommendations of this commission are expected to be effective from January 1, 2026, benefiting approximately 50 lakh employees and over 65 lakh pensioners.
