The death of a teenage killer at a young offenders facility is to be probed. ‌

Jordan Tams was one of three teenagers found guilty of the murder of Gary Belfield at Newcastle Crown Court in December last year. ‌

The 18-year-old died on October 18 while residing at HMP Deerbolt, a young offender institution in Barnard Castle, County Durham. ‌

The Prison Service has confirmed that the Prisons and Probation Ombudsman will now investigate the circumstances surrounding his death, reports the Chronicle Live.

Tams was handed a life sentence with a minimum term of 26 years for his part in the killing of 40-year-old Gateshead man Gary Belfield at a property on Elliott Drive. Mr Belfield, originally from Manchester, was found to have been stabbed 11 times and died at
