A convicted murderer has died at the age of 18 while serving his sentence in the North East. Jordan Tams was one of three teenagers found guilty of the murder of Gary Belfield at Newcastle Crown Court in December.

The teen passed away on October 18. At the time of his death, he was residing at HMP Deerbolt, a young offender institution in Barnard Castle, County Durham. The Prison Service has confirmed that the Prisons and Probation Ombudsman will now investigate the circumstances surrounding his death, as is standard procedure for all deaths in custody.
